He remembered her from when he was a child. She was Tsunade-hime—always beautiful, strong, and deadly. She was the granddaughter of the Shodai Hokage. She was…perfect.

Growing up in Konohagakure, Sorutobi Asuma knew that no other woman would ever be good enough for him, the son of the Sandaime Hokage.

When she left, his heart shattered, leading him to not be attached to too much of anything. His saving grace was that when he returned to Konohagakure, Yuhi Kurenai was there, waiting for him. She was beautiful, in her own way, graceful, strong, and gentle. It seemed that she was the balm for his tortured, stupid soul. She was the one who held him as he sobbed in private after his father’s death.

But after learning from Hatake Kakashi that Tsunade-sama was returning to become Godaime, Asuma wasn’t sure how he would feel.

When she and her assistant, Shizune-san, walked through the gates, Asuma’s breath caught in his throat. She was as beautiful and headstrong as she’d always been. The stories of her gambling and drinking had only added to her appeal, in his opinion, as a woman to not be taken lightly.

However, it was the slim, delicate hand on his arm that held his heart now. She was the real woman in his life, the match for his soul. Tsunade-sama was, as she’d always been, unattainable.
